Low poly

You’ll make a low poly portrait in Illustrator. This is done by drawing little triangles with the Pen Tool in Illustrator. Here you see some examples of low poly portraits.

This 9 minute video explains how it’s done.

TIPS

  • Use a photograph with a high light-dark contrast, this will give the best result.
  • To quickly line up with other object, use View > Smart Guides (cmd+U)
  • First draw the triangles without a fill (just a line color). Afterwards you fill them and lastly you turn off the lines.
  • Make sure all shapes are closed.
  • Make swatches to quickly fill shapes with colors.
  • Use smaller triangles in detailed areas, such as the eyes, nose and mouth.
