Setting up a new document

Whenever you start a new project in InDesign you need to set up your document. The right settings depend on whatever your document is for. In this exercise we will set up a small 8 page booklet for print.

Time: 15 minutes

Steps:

1. Open InDesign an choose File > Open

   

2. Click the Print tab.
3. Click the A5 preset
4. Set the number of pages to 8
5. Change the page margin to
   1. top: 9 mm
   2. bottom: 12 mm
   3. inside: 12 mm
   4. outside 9 mm
6. Change the bleed margin to
   1. top: 3 mm
   2. bottom: 3 mm
   3. inside: 0 mm
   4. outside: 3 mm
7. Click Create
