Course portfolio

In this final assignment you’ll collect the exercises you have done throughout the course into one Indesign document. Consider this a presentation of your work.

The design of this document is up to you. Feel free to keep it simple if you wish, or play around with Indesign’s more advanced features.

StepsContent (20-21)Requirements
  1. Start a new document in Indesign.
    • Choose any page size you like.
    • Set this document up as booklet (facing pages) and choose at least 16 pages.
    • Set the bleed to 3mm.
  2. Place all your exercise content inside the document (see “Content” tab)
    1. Use File > Place (CMD-D) to place your exercise files
    2. Use working documents where possible, such as AI or PSD. If you only have JPG’s or SVG or something else then use that.
  3. Create text frames for
    1. Cover headings (optional)
    2. Page 2: About me text (heading plus body text)
    3. Pages 3-14: Exercise name (heading)
    4. Pages 3-14: Exercise description (optional; body text)
    5. Page 15: Reflections (heading plus body text)
  4. Design/layout your content
    1. Text
      1. Choose font that you like for your headings and body text
      2. Create and use paragraph styles
        1. for headings that are used more than once
        2. for body-text
    2. Images
      1. Position and scale your images in a consistent way
      2. Make sure each image is accompanied by the exercise name (in a textframe) in your layout.
      3. Make sure raster-images have an effective resolution of at least 150 dpi.
      4. Make sure your AI exercises are placed as vector graphics (no pixels).
  5. Export into a package
    1. Use File > Package to create an Indesign package folder
    2. Use File > Adobe PDF presets to create a print-ready pdf.

    • Your name and class/group
    • Short introduction about yourself with a recognisable photograph of your face.
    • Describe your starting experience in Digital Visualisation / Graphic Design
  3. Greetingcard Design
    • Find the pdf you created of the front/back of the card. Place an image of both front and back design.
    • Header with the name of the exercise
    • Optional: short description of the exercise
  4. Select-a-ball
    • Place your PSD
    • Header with the name of the exercise
    • Optional: short description of the exercise
  5. Pulling a Sketch from paper
    • Place your PSD
    • Header with the name of the exercise
    • Optional: short description of the exercise
  6. B/W with color accent (umbrella)
    • Place your PSD
    • Header with the name of the exercise
    • Optional: short description of the exercise
  7. Drawing Shapes with the Pen Tool
    • Place your AI

  8. Vector Fun
    • Place your AI
    • Header with the name of the exercise

  9. Removing Dust and Scratches
    • Place your PSD
    • Header with the name of the exercise

  10. Retouching
    • Choose three layers (images) from the exercise you liked best
    • Place your PSD. While placing you get the option to choose a layer to show.
    • Place this PSD three times, each time showing another layer
    • Header with the name of the exercise

  11. Mockup
    • Place your PSD
    • Header with the name of the exercise
    • Optional: short description of the exercise
  12. Color Correction
    • Choose three layers (images) from the exercise you liked best
    • Place your PSD. While placing you get the option to choose a layer to show.
    • Place this PSD three times, each time showing another layer
    • Header with the name of the exercise
    • Optional: short description of the exercise
  13. Double Exposure (poster)
    • Place your final PDF
    • Header with the name of the exercise
    • Optional: short description of the exercise
  14. Reflection
    • Reflect on the exercises (up to 50 words)
